Remains of hostage get transferred by Hamas to ICRC—Israel

(MENAFN) Israel announced on Monday that Hamas has transferred the body of another hostage to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza as part of the ongoing ceasefire arrangement between the two sides.

According to a military statement, the coffin carrying the deceased captive’s remains is being delivered to Israeli forces inside the enclave.

Later, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the transfer, stating that “Israel has received, via the Red Cross, a coffin containing the remains of a deceased hostage, which was handed over to an IDF (army) and ISA (security agency) force inside the Gaza Strip.”

Earlier in the day, Hamas had announced its intention to deliver the remains of an Israeli hostage under the terms of the ceasefire.

The truce between Israel and Hamas began on Oct. 10 as part of a 20-point proposal introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Since its implementation, Hamas has released 20 living hostages and returned the bodies of 17 of 28 deceased captives, most of whom were Israeli nationals. Israeli authorities, however, previously reported that one of the recovered bodies did not correspond to any of the officially missing individuals.

The agreement also includes provisions for rebuilding Gaza and creating a new administrative structure that excludes Hamas.

According to Palestinian officials, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 68,500 people and injuries to over 170,300 since October 2023.
